Mike Flanagan, Pick My Book!

Mike Flanagan, choose my book to adapt and turn into a miniseries! Oh wait, I forgot to include the supplication in that sentence. Mike Flanagan, please choose my book!

I daresay that seeing your book adapted into a movie, miniseries, or TV series is a dream of the overwhelming majority of authors, no matter the genre. For sure, it boosts every writer’s career. All of a sudden, millions of people will ‘watch’ your story; and many of them will be curious enough to read the book not only for the purpose of comparing how faithful to the story the adaptation is, but also which one is the best of the two.

But for horror authors, having their book adapted (or even a story based on it) by Mike Flanagan is a bonus. The man is a genius. He manages to convey the best of the story and the characters in an extraordinary way, and shows the viewer how he ‘saw’ the book.

Even Stephen King and Quentin Tarantino recognize Flanagan’s exceptional talent. The filmmaker, writer, director, producer, and editor is unanimously praised when it comes to horror.

So, as I watch films of his like Gerald’s Game, and the series The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and others, I can’t help but think how interesting it would be to know what Flanagan’s vision of my books would be.

Although I’m sure the result would be fabulous, it also makes me feel sick to my stomach just thinking about the possibility of having one of my books chosen by this fabulous filmmaker; especially the one that contains elements of the supernatural, the occult, and the erotic (that would be Crowley’s Cult, in case you’re wondering).

For now, I can only imagine what he would do. But who knows, maybe one day he’ll find out about me? [Wink]
